Why You Should Eat Beets

beetsWhen was the last time you had your beets? If you’re like most people it’s probably been a long time.

Most people know that beets are good for the body but are put off by the taste.

Well I can’t stand the taste of beets either and that’s why I juice them.

Juice one apple and one beet and you have yourself a great tasting health drink.

Hear are some reasons why you should add beets to your daily diet.

Lowers Blood Pressure

This wonderful vegetable is high in nitrates which is converted into nitric oxide by the body. Nitric oxide is known to expand the walls of blood vessels and give them more elasticity thus lowering blood pressure.

Lower blood pressure means less strain on the heart. Your body will love you for it.

Those with prehypertension (blood pressure in the range of 120/80 to 139/89) should try juicing beets before turning to costly prescription drugs. It may be enough to help keep your blood pressure at healthy levels.

But juicing beets doesn’t lower blood pressure significantly like prescription drugs can so first consult with your doctor especially if you exceed prehypertensive levels.

Aids in Digestion

Juicing beets every morning helps keeps my bowel movements regular no matter what kind of junk food I eat later in the day.

In fact, beets work so well that I no longer bother with laxatives or fiber-rich products like Metamucil.

Before reaching for the medicine cabinet for your constipation try a glass of beet juice and watch it work wonders.

Good Source of Energy

Beets are a great source of energy because it is rich in carbohydrates. But unlike fast foods which are also high in carbohydrates, beets will fuel your body throughout the day.

It’s not uncommon for athletes to eat beets before a match to enhance their endurance.

If you’re unusually low on energy in the mornings try a glass of beet juice instead of coffee and feel what a difference a drink can make.

There are many more health benefits of eating beets. The new health slogan should be ‘A beet a day keeps the doctor away’.
